I’m a very recent convert to the world of “body-con” after years of avoiding it like the plague, I suddenly realised that in a world where High Street clothes were cut for people with hips 4″ smaller than me (or waists 4″ bigger) body con was my friend. It makes for fitted frocks without expensive tailoring or worrying about the shops proportions.
In quality thicker fabrics, body con dresses can be a dead ringer for a carefully tailored 50s shift, at least from a distance, AND you can climb in and out of cars in them.
I have a few, which all came from New Look, in varying degrees of fabric quality and thickness, so you might want to head in store and check them out. This one has a lovely jacquard fabric that with a pair of kitten heels and a little black hat will look delightfully 50s or early 60s. I might wear gloves with it too, very Audrey Hepburn.
